If you want to feel completely vulnerable, there are a few things you can do: go on a blind date with someone totally out of your league, print off your Google Chrome history for your boss, or apply to art school.
When I was 17, I decided to take the plunge and do the latter. I didn’t realize that this meant I was dedicating myself to a few months of humiliation in the form of applications, scanned still life drawings, anxiety about appropriate .JPGs sizes, and endless nights researching my options.
Applying to any college is difficult— have you even seen the maze of FAFSA? Honestly, it took me a few semesters to feel confident that I was even signing up for classes correctly. But applying to art school? I don’t want to be extreme, but I’m convinced that compiling your portfolio is a student’s first pop quiz in creative problem solving.
Are you a student or parent who wants to ease the process? The Art Supply Depo is offering high school students a four-day portfolio prep workshop from 10am-1pm on July 19-22 for $75.
Students will prepare their portfolio for post-secondary art school admissions and receive coaching and guidance from instructor Kate Delay, who has taught high school art for twenty-five years. In her time, Delay has helped hundreds of students prepare their portfolios for acceptance into the top art colleges in the United States. In 2010, she received the regional award as Outstanding Art Teacher from the Ohio Art Education Association.
Participating students will receive critiques on their work, discuss the elusive art school admission process, hear tips and tricks, as well as learn how to photograph their work.
This class is for high school students only. Please register ASAP. Space is limited. For more info, see here.
