Teens with autism can now take a five-week swimming class thanks to Bittersweet, Inc.’s expansion of their new Social living Club.
The SLC – a club which offers social and community opportunities for teens with autism – will work with the St. James Club in Toledo, which is where the swimming class will be held. Kids will begin by participating in activities focused on pool etiquette, safety, and swimming techniques taught by St. James Club swim instructors. Each class will end with a half hour of practicing and having fun, with a focus on increasing social skills.
“Swimming is such a great skill to learn, not only for the water safety, but also because it provides gross motor movements and repetitive motions that many individuals with autism benefit from. It’s also a great way to have fun with friends!” said Kate Gulbrand, Bittersweet’s Community Outreach Specialist, in a press release.
Each class will be at 7pm on Mondays at the St. James Club (7337 W. Bancroft St.).
The class dates are March 28, April 4, 11, 18, and 25.
The five-week course is $120, but there are scholarship opportunities available.
