Up and away

Waite High School Valedictorian Santoria
Sawyer was picked to be a Coca-Cola Scholar for her excellence in academics and her show of civic leadership through extracurricular activities.  Only 253 graduating 2010 seniors were granted the award this year. Additionally, she is also one of only 53 students selected by Coca-Cola to receive a $20,000 scholarship.  Sawyer will be attending Lourdes College, of which she is a Lourdes College Upward Bound student, and she was able to bestow Coca-Cola’s Educator of Distinction of Award on the Upward Bound advisor at Lourdes, Lisa Hess.  Upward Bound is a program that gives opportunities to students of low-income families and families without a college graduate in the home to succeed and improve their pre-college academics.
