“When I graduated from high school, I always knew I wanted to open up my own [dance] studio,” said Toledo native Tanisha Shelmon. Excited to give something back to the community, and with a lengthy resume of dance training and performing, Shelmon looks forward to helping others reach for and fulfill their dreams.  Touch A Dream Dance Studio opened this past June and is located on Holland-Sylvania Rd. inside Sunrise Gymnastics.

A former member of the Detroit Pistons dance team, Shelmon knows what it takes to make a great dancer and performer.  Aside from offering classes for ages three to adult in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical, theatre, and more, the studio will be holding auditions for competition teams on September 6, 2009.  “It’s almost like you’re getting a bit of the professional side of it at an early age,” said Shelmon who mentioned the auditions are open to anyone.

Shelmon’s mother, Terri Shelmon, is the co-director of the studio and teaches the drama portion as well as ballet for the 3-4 year olds.   With parallels between dancing, singing, and acting, the mother-daughter team knows how valuable it is to offer everything in one studio. Grand Open Registration for fall is Sunday, September 20, 2009 3-6p.m. at the studio and Terri and Tanisha will be on hand to provide more detailed information and answer questions.
