Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo Introduce Exergame Equipment

Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo recently introduced “Exergame” to its members, who now have the option to participate in this program that combines digital technology with physical exercise.

The Exergame program features six stations that are appropriate for all ages and levels of fitness. Additionally, each of the Exergame stations help participants develop different exercise-related skill sets. The different stations and the fitness skills they help cultivate:

T-Wall 64: An activity including lighted circles, which help improve reaction skills and hand-eye coordination.

3 Kick: An activity with kickable foam padding that helps test balance and full-body and hand-eye coordination.

iWall: An activity that immerses players into a fitness game.

iDance 2: A group dance exercise game.

Heavy Ball: An activity where a medicine ball and lighted locations are used to train lateral movements and squats.

ExerBike: An activity where pedal-to-play technology powers an Xbox console.

Although each activity is distinct, Gerri Peters, director of programming, shared that one similarity across all Exergame stations is that each one has been proven to help youth feel more relaxed and centered. The Exergame program equipment was implemented through the help of an $88,000 investment in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Toledo by The Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation.

With seven locations in the Toledo area, members of the Homer Hanham Club (located at 2250 N. Detroit Ave.) will have daily access to Exergame equipment, while members of other Clubs will have scheduled field trips to use the equipment.
