Finding “me” time through exercise

healthyMoms

Whether you work outside the home or are busy managing a household, being a mom is a full-time job. Your days and nights are filled with preparing meals, running errands, grocery shopping, catching up on laundry, changing diapers, attending the kids’ activities, and too many other duties to list!
But what about you?
Whether you find comfort in a relaxing bath, a good book or a long walk, finding “me” time is an important factor in maintaining a healthy lifestyle (and your sanity!)
One important way to achieve “me” time is through exercise. Regular physical activity provides numerous benefits, and at times, some much-needed time to yourself.

Benefits of Exercise
We all know that exercise is important, but regular physical activity does much more than help maintain weight. Exercise can improve your mood and boost your energy level, which can lead to enhanced self-confidence and can prevent depression. It can also help you prevent (or manage) chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, and some cancers.
Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of exercise for busy moms is promoting better sleep. Regular physical activity during the day (not too close to bedtime) can help you fall asleep faster and deepen your sleep, giving you more energy to get through your day.

What do I do with the kids?
If you still have young children at home, there are many ways to engage your children in your physical activity – no matter their age.
One of the most common exercises to engage children is to get outside and walk. Get out the stroller and take a brisk walk around your neighborhood, visit a local park or trail or in inclement weather, take a trip to the mall.
But if you truly want to achieve some alone time, Wildwood Athletic Club has a recommendation – visit the club!
Wildwood Athletic Club on N. Reynolds Rd. in Toledo features a 4,000 square foot Kid’s Club, with many activities for children of all ages. Wildwood also features a range of adult health and wellness programs – many that do not even require a membership!
One mom stated, “As a work at home mom, I joined Wildwood because I can get a great workout and talk to other moms while my kids enjoy Kid’s Club. They are disappointed when its time to leave!”
