In May, Pemberville’s Bittersweet Farms dedicated a new Water Feature Pond at a community event. Four years ago, Bittersweet Inc. launched a start-up program at this site to create a transitional program for adolescents and young adults with autism. Currently the program in Pemberville offers residential, school and day programs.
The Water Feature Pond was made possible through a donation. Research has shown that water activities often have a calming effect on people with autism, and the pond will be used therapeutically for this purpose.
This month, the Whitehouse location of Bittersweet hosts a three-day Bittersweet Academy on July 21, 22, and 23 during which attendees can learn successful ways of dealing with autism, including Bittersweet’s own methodology.
