Reading Resources at Toledo Libraries that Your Kids will Love

Children are encouraged to read and expand their minds as developing readers not only in school, but within our community at Toledo Lucas County Public Libraries! From their first library card and board books, to picture books and, eventually, their all time favorite novels, the Library will be there every step of the way to help build a love of reading. Many reading resources are available to the public, including:

In-person and virtual Ready to Read sessions
The Ready To Read program is a parent education initiative designed to help families prepare their young children for kindergarten while also building early literacy skills. Call 419.259.5253 to set up a session.

Virtual Storytimes
You and your child can join the library from the comfort of your home for virtual storytime with librarians and local presenters. Subscribe to Toledo Library on YouTube to stay up-to-date with new videos.

Learning packs
These learning packs are available for children K-3 and include themed mini book bundles and Scholastic activity pages. Teacher collections are also available to provide beneficial reads for the whole class! Request topics such as dinosaurs, bugs, oceans, weather, dogs, and much more! These bundles can be requested via phone or by visiting a local branch to make your request. Expect a call from the Library as these bundles may take a day or two to create.

Childcare Kit delivery
The Library has the resources to engage and educate the children cared for in your center. These unique childcare kits have materials designed for various ages with free delivery! Just give one of the local library branches a call to provide the information for delivery.

Dial-A-Story
These are free recorded stories for children, teens, and even adults! Listen by phone at any time of day or night by calling 419.745.9700, then choose your age group and story of your choice.

Activities to Go kits
Bring the fun of the Library to your home with activities to go! Visit any location for an Activities To Go envelopes. Each envelope has directions and supplies for fun activities at home for preschoolers, kids ages five to ten, teens. or adults. You can also call 419.259.5200 to get a full set of instructions emailed to you.
