There is no good time for a pregnant woman (or one trying to get pregnant) to drink. That’s the message from Double ARC, a local agency that works with families whose children have been exposed to alcohol in utero and suffered the resulting permanent brain damage. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders occur in 1/20 to 1/30 of children, who are identified by their behavioral and social challenges. Double ARC offers diagnosis and support for these families and the teachers and other professionals who interact with them, as well as a parents support group, and help for children with other brain-based disorders.
