Sharing the art of dance— one step at a time

“I’ve been dancing since I was 5,” said Tenethia Beamon, owner of Beamon DANCE studio, along with her operating manager, Connie Hicks.   The studio opened this past December and is located on the second floor of the St. James Club on Bancroft.  “It was amazing.  It (the facility) was exactly what we were looking for,” said Beamon.
The new studio offers classes in tap, jazz, ballet, point, jazz technique, and hip hop.  With Beamon’s formal training and her performing background, she brings much experience and expertise to her students.  “When I was 19 I was on tour with Aretha Franklin,” said Beamon.  She also made it to Las Vegas for the reality show “So You Think You Can Dance.”  Aside from Beamon having many years of teaching experience, the other instructors at Beamon DANCE have a combined 25 years of teaching experience.
Along with teaching various classes at the studio, Beamon is the competition instructor as well. It’s no wonder — she began competition dance at age 7.  “Competition was the best thing that could have ever happened to me,” she said.
Classes are available for beginners, intermediate, and advanced, and for children as young as 3. More information on Beamon DANCE, classes, and instructors can be found on their website,, or contact Tenethia Beamon at 419-377-0297.
