Health and Wellness Guide 2026

As we enter the new year, local health and wellness resources in the Toledo area reflect on how their practices grow, evolve and continue to meet the needs of our communities. Additionally, they offer suggestions on how to develop habits to support long-term wellness for individuals and their families.

Dr. Sarah Hansen

How do you plan to expand your impact on the community in the coming year?
We hope to reach more patients and achieve even more beautiful smiles! A smile makes a huge difference in someone’s life! By straightening teeth, we help patients gain confidence in themselves. People want to show off their teeth much more after the braces come off, and everyone deserves a smile they’re proud of.

What makes your approach to patient care different from other providers?
At HLH, our approach to patient care is completely customized. Every patient is different, and customizing each one’s treatment plan is almost like a puzzle! We offer metal braces, ceramic braces and Invisalign, and we make sure we are addressing every patient’s concerns, as well as meeting our own standards for creating beautiful smiles. We even schedule a specific appointment toward the end of treatment to ensure our goals, and the patient’s goals, are met. We really do care about our patients.

What’s one habit that families can adopt that can make a big difference in long-term wellness? Families can help their children learn good dental habits with a routine of proper brushing and flossing. One way is for children to watch their parents! When they see a good example of keeping their teeth clean, they will be more likely to try themselves. As soon as baby teeth start to erupt, it’s time to start brushing them, and as soon as a baby tooth touches the one next to it, it’s time to start flossing. Even if regular floss is difficult to use, floss picks and water flossing are great alternatives!

What are your top priorities for your swim schools in 2026?
We are looking to become immersed in the Greater Toledo community at a high level in 2026. We raised our kids in this community and are extremely passionate about the people and places in Northwest Ohio. We are also looking to offer more value for our customers by reducing our group class size and offering first responder/military discounts!

How do you hope to expand your impact on the community in the coming year?
We are offering some scholarships to local families for swim lessons. We partner with the Josh Project, which offers free lessons for families. In addition to that, we’re chamber of commerce members in Sylvania, Holland, Maumee and Perrysburg. Finally, we donate to countless local charities and organizations!

What makes your approach to care different from other providers?
We take a very personal approach and meet our swimmers where they are. Everyone is different, and we’ve found that you can’t approach different people with the exact same approach. As we say at SafeSplash, they come for the swim lessons and they stay for the genuine relationships!

Shelby Mallory, Development manager

What are your top priorities for your organization in 2026?
In 2026, Anne Grady’s top priorities center on strengthening our service to the disability community and expanding our respite care capacity to meet growing needs.

How do you hope to expand your impact on the community in the coming year?
We plan to broaden our respite services to serve more adults and children. Since launching our weekend respite program in late 2025, demand has continued to rise. This expansion will provide individuals with disabilities with a safe, supportive place to stay temporarily, ensuring high-quality care while giving caregivers time to rest and recharge.

Describe your approach to patient care?
Anne Grady’s approach to care is unique because our mission is truly at the heart of every service we deliver. We lead with quality, respect and dignity, values that drive meaningful outcomes and support a higher quality of life for the individuals we serve.

What’s one habit that families can adopt that can make a big difference in long-term wellness?
Adopting a person-centered approach can make a significant difference. When families advocate for an individual’s interests, needs and preferences, they ensure that both basic needs and personal goals are met, supporting long-term wellness and fulfillment.

Lead Operations, team and patient experience

What are your top priorities for your practice in 2026?
In 2026, our top priorities are continuing to elevate the level of care we provide, expanding our neurological focused chiropractic clinical team, and expanding our care advocate team so we can help serve more families in our community. We want to ensure that every patient who walks through our doors experiences care that is deeply personalized, rooted in objective data, and focused on long-term results, not quick fixes. Building strong systems, supporting our team’s growth, and maintaining a culture centered on excellence and integrity are essential as we grow.

How do you hope to expand your impact on the community in the coming year?
One of the key ways we’re expanding our community impact is through intentional education. My husband and I have just finalized our annual planning and each month we’ll be hosting workshops designed to meet families exactly where they are.

One of these is our Perfect Storm Workshop, a workshop created specifically for parents of children who have received diagnoses such as ASD, ADHD, or Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). This workshop is centered on helping families identify the root causes behind their child’s challenges and symptoms, while offering clarity, hope, and actionable next steps grounded in nervous system health.

We’re also launching our Birth and Beyond Workshop, hopefully in the first quarter, to support families from pregnancy through early childhood, along with several webinars throughout the year to broaden access beyond our office walls.

All of these workshops will be completely free and open to anyone in the community. Our goal is to shift the conversation from managing symptoms to optimizing health by empowering families with education around the nervous system, lifestyle habits, and proactive care. Our team is incredibly excited about what’s ahead, and we’re honored to walk alongside families as they build healthier futures together!

What makes your approach to patient care different from other providers?
We focus on the root cause, not just the symptoms. Everything starts with understanding how the nervous system is functioning, because it controls every aspect of the body. We combine advanced technology, thorough assessments, and time spent listening to our patients’ stories to create care plans that are specific to the individual—not a one-size-fits-all approach. Most importantly, we partner with our patients. Through education and guidance, we empower them to understand their bodies and take an active role in their healing. Our doctor & care advocate teams bring extensive training, certifications, and a shared commitment to continual growth, ensuring the highest level of care and connection at every visit.

What’s one habit that families can adopt that can make a big difference in long-term wellness?
Consistency. Whether it’s regular movement, prioritizing sleep, limiting screen time, or committing to routine nervous system-focused care, consistency over time creates powerful change. Small, daily habits practiced together as a family compound into long-term health and resilience.

How has your work with patients shaped your approach to care?
Working with patients has reinforced that health is deeply personal and never one-size-fits-all. Every individual walks through our doors with a unique story, background, and set of experiences that shape where they are on their health journey. Being invited into that space is something I never take lightly.
