Bowling Green, OH to be New Abbott Baby Formula Facility

Abbott is a multinational healthcare company, which, among other products and services, manufactures nutritionals. Although Abbott’s specialty/metabolic powder products and formulas have been valued across the nation by people with severe allergies and other dietary restrictions, the company’s products will take on a renewed sense of importance for local families in Bowling Green, OH.

In December 2022, Governor Mike DeWine, Lt. Governor Jon Husted, and JobsOhio President/CEO J. P. Nauseef shared the announcement that Abbott selected a site in Bowling Green to construct a new formula manufacturing facility. The Abbott company, with roots in Columbus, will be investing nearly $536 million in the new facility’s construction and will bring 450 permanent new jobs to Northwest Ohio. The facility’s construction has received support from several groups including the Ohio Department of Development, Northwest Ohio’s Regional Growth Partnership (RGP), and Bowling Green Economic Development.

Enthusiasm for the job prospects and the opportunity for Northwest Ohio to contribute to the U.S. supply of Abbott’s life-saving formulas has been verbalized by many involved in the facility’s construction. State Representative Haraz N. Ghanbari (R-Perrysburg), for instance, commented on the former implication of the facility’s construction, stating that he is “a big supporter of this initiative to boost our economic development, our manufacturing industry, and create more good-paying jobs for the benefit of our communities and residents of Wood County.”

Abbott selected Bowling Green as the location for its new manufacturing facility after considering its proximity to suppliers, land availability, transportation links, a qualified workforce, and strong connections between state and local officials. The facility’s groundbreaking is expected to happen in 2023, and construction is expected to be completed in 2026.
