Roosters Wings in Holland

Roosters’ signage proclaims that it’s a “fun, casual joint.” Their mission, to provide that atmosphere for everyone who walks through the door, applies to employees and customers alike. Founded in 1988 by Bob and Corrine Frick in Dayton, Ohio, now Roosters locations have opened throughout Ohio, as well as in Kentucky, West Virginia and Indiana. The first Toledo-area location opened in 2023 in Sylvania, while a Holland (Maumee) store opened earlier this year.

My family and I chose the newest location (Holland) for our first visit. As we walked through those doors, we were greeted by at least a half dozen friendly employees.

The place was clean and reasonably quiet for a Thursday evening. The walls were humorously decorated with “dad joke” plaques and nostalgic movie posters, which all contribute to a very “fun, casual” environment as advertised. The atmosphere acts as an engagement tool, as evidenced by our son’s excitement with walking through the dining area, while exploring the restaurant walls for jokes. The only thing he liked more was the giant fruit punch drink waiting for him at the table when he got back.

A kid’s meal ($4.99) comes with an entrée and two sides — a great deal. And those prices stay low for adults – $7.99 for a grilled chicken salad, $8.99 for an Italian sub, and all of the appetizers on the menu are under $10. Our food arrived quickly and was presented thoughtfully, a stand-out feature of the restaurant. It is abundantly apparent that the employees take pride in their work.

More than wings and games

While it might be tempting to categorize Roosters as a sports bar, the company’s identity runs much deeper than chicken wings and ball games. There is a clear commitment to the people they serve, and it starts with the Roosters Foundation which supports hundreds of local charities, youth programs and community organizations company-wide. The company partners with local high schools for pre- and post-game meals, as well as the 2nd & 7 Foundation, dedicated to providing free books and positive role models to children across Ohio.

Roosters is well known for major events, including its annual charitable golf outing, which has raised over $1 million for the Ohio State Buckeye Cruise for Cancer.

Closer to home, Roosters invests in the very people who make the “fun, casual” atmosphere possible. Each corporate location offers $1,000 annual scholarships to team members, helping employees at local locations in Holland and Sylvania reach their own educational goals.

Positive, friendly and fun

Our visit to the Holland location was exactly what a family dinner should be: positive, friendly and genuinely fun.

Their website provides a detailed allergen and nutrition guide, everything a family might need before they even walk through the door. Roosters Wings is an awesome spot for a fun, inexpensive family meal.
