This summer, the City of Perrysburg will become the setting for an extraordinary real-life treasure hunt designed to bring families, friends and neighbors together in a one-of-a-kind community adventure. Beginning May 22 and running through August 10, The Great Perrysburg Treasure Hunt will transform parks, sidewalks, historic landmarks and local businesses into pieces of an immersive city-wide puzzle.
Created by Perrysburg moms Kate French and Lacey Ziemkiewicz, the event invites participants to solve clues, decipher codes, follow treasure maps and uncover hidden details scattered throughout the city leading toward the ultimate goal: a real buried treasure hidden somewhere in Perrysburg.
A treasure hunt unlike any other
Organizers describe the experience as far more than a traditional scavenger hunt. The adventure unfolds in two stages, beginning with an exploratory phase that encourages participants to discover locations and solve challenges throughout the city. Those who successfully complete the first phase can move on to the advanced portion of the hunt, where clue-to-clue problem solving eventually leads to the buried treasure chest.
“This isn’t a scavenger hunt. It’s a true treasure hunt,” said co-creator Kate French. “We wanted to create something families will talk about for decades — something magical, challenging and incredibly fun.”
Throughout the summer, participants will encounter historical sites, artistic installations, hidden messages and interactive puzzles that blend storytelling, creativity and local history into one cohesive experience.
Community wide excitement
The Hunt is presented in partnership with Visit Perrysburg and developed in collaboration with the City of Perrysburg, Perrysburg Township, Wood County Parks and Perrysburg Schools. Organizers say the event is designed to encourage exploration, connection and community spirit while celebrating America 250 festivities taking place across the region.
“We wanted to create something that brings people together,” said co-creator Lacey Ziemkiewicz. “You might see families walking through parks with maps in hand, teenagers cracking codes and grandparents helping solve clues. It’s an adventure that invites everyone in.”
Prizes and participation
Participants competing in the hunt will have the opportunity to win significant prizes, including a $1,500 grand prize package for the first person to uncover the treasure. Additional prize packages of $1,000 and $500 will be awarded to second and third place finishers, while additional treasure finders will receive commemorative shirts or bumper stickers.
Organizers also plan to award smaller prizes and hold drawings throughout the summer so that families can participate and enjoy the experience even if they do not pursue the final treasure.
