Imagine a space where family and work can exist in harmony. A place to work from your laptop, make phone calls or enjoy coffee with friends while your children are entertained with story-time, crafts and wellness activities. That’s exactly what The Millie, a new kid-friendly co-working space and event venue in Bowling Green, has to offer!
With little ones of her own, owner Haley Reese was inspired to open The Millie as a child-friendly venue in January 2024. Located in a historical building in the heart of downtown Bowling Green, The Millie features neutral decor, modern/cozy touches and Montessori-based play items, and has quickly become a popular space to gather, work and create.
“As a mom, sometimes you feel limited on places you can take your little ones. I have searched for a local play area where I could have the opportunity to work or relax with coffee with my kids in tow,” Reese shared. “There really wasn’t anything around here for families when it comes to venues or co-working spaces for kids to play while you work. Now, here it is! At The Millie, you’re encouraged to come with coffee, create and collaborate.”
The Mille Play School
The Millie Play School is designed for families in need of an extra hand while they work from their laptops or simply sit to enjoy their coffee. The Montessori-based play area is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 12pm with scheduled learning activities.
Children aged 18 months to 6 years old are welcome to participate in crafts, story time, and other fun activities planned by the Play Guides at The Millie. Parents must be present as this is not a drop-off facility, but rather an opportunity for parents to use the co-working space while children enjoy guided learning and playtime.
Every month has a new theme, and the daily activities are based on the age and skill level of the little learners. The cost for a 3-hour play-time is only $18 and parents are encouraged to book playtime in advance at themillievenue.com/guidedplaytimes.
“So far we have received amazing feedback from parents, and the kids love it too,” Reese added.
Event space rental
The Millie has also become a popular petite venue for small gatherings in Bowling Green. The natural beauty of this historic building is a perfect setting for everything from birthday parties and bridal or baby showers to rehearsal dinners and micro-weddings. Rental fees vary and may include the use of tables, chairs, in-house decorations, and even the play area for children!
Many unique events are planned throughout the year at The Millie. A “Mama & Mini’s Market” will be held on Saturday, April 6 from 11am–3pm. This is a child-led farmer’s market and motherhood resale event. Throughout the day, spring mini-photo sessions will also be offered with Amanda Rahe Photography.
“This event is a fantastic opportunity for our young entrepreneurs to take center stage and launch their own small businesses,” Reese said. “Additionally, it’s a perfect platform for moms to showcase and sell their luxury baby products. It has been cute seeing the child vendor applications come through and checking out what their business will be!”
Other special events planned for 2025 include a “Fairy Garden” week and a “Little Cowboys & Cowgirls” event. A Holiday Market will also be held later this year during the Bowling Green city parade with an opportunity for photos with Santa!
