Inclusive Playgrounds and Resources in the Toledo Area

There are several new opportunities for play around the Glass City, including playgrounds that are accessible for all children! We put together a list of some of our favorites. Did we miss any? Leave us suggestions in the comments! We are always happy to add more resources to the list.


Perrysburg Inclusive Playground

The Perrysburg Inclusive playground includes safety and accessibility features such as rubber pavement that is red in areas near swings and ziplines for children who are visually impaired, as well as ramps that lead to playground structures instead of stairs! Special designs have made their slides and swings accessible for those with hearing impairments and low muscle tone. Learn more on the Wood County Plays Facebook page.



Carter Park Playground
401 Campbell Hill Rd., Bowling Green

Wood County Plays is also responsible for the newest inclusive playground in the Toledo area. Located in Bowling Green, the Carter Park Playground’s construction began in late May, 2022. Though the park is not open as of the publication of this article, kids in BG will certainly appreciate everything it has to offer, from a wheelchair-accessible log and swing to a seven-foot-high climbing course. Flagship Collaborative Play Place
Lakeview Park
1100 E Perry St., Port Clinton

Flagship Collaborative Play Place is entirely wheelchair accessible from top to bottom! It features a beach, lakefront design and play structures including boats, a boardwalk, and marine animals. The tallest structure in the middle of the playground is a lighthouse reminiscent of the Port Clinton historical lighthouse.

Secor Barrier Free Playground

Secor Parks Barrier Free playground features a Rock-n-Raft for seated play and slide transfer for easy access to slides. Wide ramps and low handrails make the park wheelchair accessible, and they offer rings, hand cyclers and a sensory wave climber to work on upper body strength. The entire playground is soft-surfaced for accessibility everywhere!


Doneghy Inclusive Garden

The inclusive garden at Toledo Botanical Gardens is not only accessible for those with limited mobility, but also provides sensory components in the form of textured structures and walkways, and enclosed gazebos. All the pathways and surfaces are concrete and ADA compliant. Pathway edges are textured and multi-colored for visitors with vision impairments, and turf is included in between paths to provide a soft surface. Wheelchair spaces are placed between benches so wheelchair users can sit next to their friends and family as opposed to in front of or behind them.


Accomodations from the Toledo Metroparks

The Toledo Metroparks offer accessibility services for their programming and events. Accommodation requests can be made for necessary services 72 hours prior to any event. Glass City Riverwalk

The upcoming Glass City Riverwalk will feature accessible elements for all visitors to enjoy! The adventure boardwalk will be wide enough for wheelchairs and will provide seating areas along the way. Discovery play and a rock climbing feature will be available on the Riverwalk for sensory support and educational play. More than five miles of asphalt trail will be offered for mixed-use. The Glass City Riverwalk is coming soon! 


The ACT Disability-Friendly Toolkit

The Ability Center of Greater Toledo has provided a list of accessible resources for families in need. These include education, housing, employment, healthcare, recreation and more. The toolkit provides vital information for children and families with disability and provides support for those struggling. 


Woodlands Park

In late June 2023, Woodlands Park in Perrysburg joined the list of local parks that now offer inclusive equipment to their visitors. The inclusive playground at Woodlands Park follows in the footsteps of Bicentennial and Municipal parks, which were also replaced and re-opened earlier in June 2023.

The opening of Woodlands Park’s inclusive playground was two weeks ahead of schedule and represents the second inclusive park in Perrysburg (the first of which was Rotary Community Park, opened in August 2021). In addition to its new inclusive playground, the park offers visitors an 18-hole disc golf course, Sculpture Walk (an art exhibition open through August 2023), shelter house, picnic pavilion, walking path, and flower garden.


Ottawa Park

In July 2024, a new inclusive playground at Ottawa Park opened near the Liz Pearson open-air shelter house. This was a $1 million investment and The Ability Center of Greater Toledo and the Toledo/Lucas County Disability Commission were consulted during the process of designing this inclusive playground. It also includes features that are iconic to Toledo, such as Jeep Wrangler and the High Level Bridge architecture.
