Maternity Q&A Session with Dr. Nick Goin

What are the most common concerns parents bring up to you about their babies? Reflux, excessive gas, constipation, colic or excessive crying, and nursing difficulty.

How do you address those issues? By assessing where in the nervous system there may be stress affecting the body’s ability to function at its best. With gentle adjustments, chiropractic care can help relieve this stress and allow the body to heal and function better.

If a parent is wary of taking their baby to a chiropractor, what would you say to ease their mind? We always tell them the amount of pressure we use in our adjustments is similar to the amount of pressure you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato or avocado. We also recommend finding a chiropractor who is trained by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA).

What are some tips you have for infant care that helps them to thrive, from a chiropractor’s point of view? Some of the most common tips I give parents regarding their new kiddos is to spend plenty of tummy time on the floor. Not only that, but also minimizing time in car seats and the use of screens at early ages are beneficial things for proper growth and development of our little ones.

About what percent of your practice is made up of pediatric care? Roughly 60% of our practice is pediatric and prenatal care.

What is your most memorable success story from treating a pregnant patient and/or infant patient? The most memorable experience for me was getting to care for my wife throughout her pregnancy and to have the blessing of adjusting my son the day he was born. I got to see firsthand the power of chiropractic and the ability it has to optimize one’s health potential.
