Toledo Libraries offer Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Program for Children Under Five

The Toledo Lucas County Public Libraries now offer Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library for children under five years old. Participants in the program will be sent one book per month for their child, completely free of charge.

Imagination Library aims to inspire children to read at an early age and help them begin an at-home library of their own. Dolly Parton, founder of Imagination Library, says “Inspiring kids to love to read became my mission. In the beginning, my hope was simply to inspire the children in my home county, but here we are today with a worldwide program that gives a book a month to well over 1 million children.”

Each month a new book is mailed directly to all participants, and if a child is signed up as a newborn, the child will receive up to 60 books from the Imagination Library by the time they are five.

The program is entirely funded through local partners and community members, including Women’s Initiative of United Way, Mercy Health and The Library Legacy Foundation. Any children under the age of five that live in Lucas County are eligible to join, and will continue to be members until their fifth birthday or until they move out of Lucas County.

Registration is now available online or at any TLCPL branch to sign-up in person. Call 419-259-5200 to get help registering. Books will ship 8-10 weeks from the initial sign-up date. Books will be mailed to the provided address, and addresses can be updated after registration if necessary.
