Find Squirrel Doors at Rutherford B. Hayes Estate in Fremont

Planning on a road trip? This year the squirrel doors at Spiegel Grove will be extending their closing date to Labor Day (September 5).

“Hunting for and finding the squirrel doors can be fun for kids and adults, and if you’re not careful you, might even learn something about our trees,” John Haven, the presidential building grounds superintendent said.

The squirrel doors were created by the Fremont Community theater Sandusky County Visitors Bureau, The Summer Kitchen, Our Lady of the Pines and the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums and Birchard Public Library.

To find unique squirrel doors around the estate, there is a map available online or at the front desk upon arrival.

Located at Spiegel Grove at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues, Hayes Presidential Library is one of the first presidential libraries, as it was founded in 1916. In the upcoming weeks, multiple events will be hosted there, including the First Lady Lucy Hayes Birthday Party, and the First Lady Lucy Hayes Birthday Tea, just to name a couple.
